Kacey Fassett, saxophone

My experience in the New York Youth Symphony began with the Jazz Band's 2015-2016 season. I had been encouraged to audition by a friend that was in the band the year before, and I did so excitedly but also worried that I would not make it in.

Jun-Davinci Choi, violin

I joined the New York Youth Symphony during its 52nd season, when I was 13 years old. Since then, my Sundays have become a routine to look forward to throughout the week. True, there are some Sundays when I'm not particularly enthusiastic about the hour-and-half commute to the city.

Emma Milian, violin

I joined the NYYS Chamber Music Program in 2013 and the orchestra in 2014. Participating in these programs has helped me make great progress as a musician and I consider myself lucky to have found a community of people who are so welcoming and passionate about music.

SooMin Chung, violin

At my first NYYS rehearsal, I vividly remember being blown away playing the opening lines of Beethoven’s Egmont Overture. Now in my third season, I am still amazed and honored that I am able to play among such talented musicians.

Omar El-Abidin, percussion

Being a member of the New York Youth Symphony has been an integral part of my life in music. I joined when I was sixteen years old during the 2014/15 season.

Joseph Morag, violin

I joined the New York Youth Symphony when I was 12. At the time, I believe that there were only two of us at the lower end of the age spectrum. I vividly remember the very first rehearsal I attended. We were playing Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
