Jason Wang was selected to perform the solo for Barber's Violin Concerto, op. 14 at the NYYS Orchestra concert being held at Queens College on May 4th. The jury that selected the soloist was comprised of Pamela Frank, Joshua Gersen and Lisa Tipton.
Jason Wang started out as a student of Healy Henderson at Solosoli Studios in San Diego, California, and was a member of the San Diego Youth Symphony during their 62nd season. He currently studies with Sungrai Sohn, music professor at Sarah Lawrence College, who continues to encourage and inspire him throughout his studies. Jason made his Carnegie Hall debut at age 10 playing the Bruch Violin Concerto and was a two-time winner of the New York Music Competition for the Young Artists. He was also a grant recipient of the Children’s Foundation for the Arts in 2012 and 2013, as well as the 2nd prize winner of the Ninth Annual Sejong Music Competition in Chicago.
A proud member of the New York Youth Symphony since 2011, Jason currently serves as the principal of the 2nd violins. Besides NYYS and his private violin lessons, Jason has also composed various works for violin including three violin concertos and duets. He is currently working on “Call of the Storm” for full orchestra.
